About Amilcar

"I often think that the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day."

Vincent Van Gogh

My name is Amilcar Mauricio Canas, I was born in El Salvador on April 1977. My family immigrated to Tarzan, California in the spring of 1980 due to a civil war that lasted 12 years. I've had an interest in art since I was a young child. When I was five years old I remember creating and building my own toys. My parents would buy me new toys but I always preferred to make my own from things I found around the house and yard. I loved creating things from clay and watching them come to life in my hands. All through middle high and high school my passions were painting, drawing and photography. Now in my late 30's, I prefer mediums like acrylic on canvas and sketching with ink and pencil. I have always worked alone and at my own pace which has helped me to create hundreds of paintings that are displayed in many homes. In 2015, my dream is to create more art that comes from my heart and be able to share my work with creative and talented people and art lovers everywhere. I have had art exhibits all throughout L.A. and the Valley from coffee houses to galleries. This year it was also a great honor to be asked by the City of Los Angeles to paint utility boxes as a community project. Read more about this in my blog.
